Do You Pay Before Or After Car Repair
Most car repairs start as estimates, so youll get a sense of the cost before you agree to the repair. Then, in most cases, you dont pay anything to the auto repair shop or dealership until the work is complete and you see the final bill. However, for major body work some repair shops may require money up front.
How Do I Estimate Car Repairs
Estimating repair costs using our tool is the best and easiest way to know how much you can expect to pay, based on what others have paid. For example, suppose your vehicles fuel filter needs replacing. In that case, the tool will pull up pricing in your local area represented as a Fair Repair Range, including parts and labor. The Fair Repair Range is Kelley Blue Books estimate of what you can reasonably expect to pay at a dealership.

Obviously, if your brakes are not functioning perfectly, you place yourself, your passengers and your car in great danger. Assessing the brakes is a portion of the routine procedure of our mobile mechanics, so during the inspection, we will let you know whether your car or truck requires any type of brake repair. If you notice any sign, that your brake system isn’t at its best, let us know and we will find out what exactly the issue is and we’ll repair the components of the system. The obvious sign is when the brake warning light is on, in this case, you definitely need to turn to a trained professional to fix your vehicle.

The Automotive Service Technology Department takes in outside work to provide real service and repair situations for our students, so they can practice recently-learned skills under instructor supervision. The type of repair we offer depends on what classes are in session, and on instructor approval. We do not perform any major mechanical repairs, such as engine rebuilds or project cars, and we do not perform rush jobs the vehicle owners needs are secondary to the educational needs of our students.
How much does it cost?
There is no labor charge for the automotive repair being performed. You must pay our cost for parts we order, along with a small service fee. We no longer accept cash or checks for any repairs, only Visa or MasterCard transactions.
How long does it take?
We do not rush students through their work, and so we cannot guarantee a finish date. Most jobs will take at least 5 days and could take up to 3 weeks or more depending on the repair. You must have alternate transportation.
Classes performing repairs are usually offered every term. If there is a problem after repairs are made, it will be addressed by automotive service technology personnel, and you may have to wait until another class is offered that deals with that type of problem.

Yelp Your Way To Auto Repairs You Can Trust
Use the experiences of people who have gone to mechanics in your area to locate a reputable shop. Sites such as Angie’s List, Google and Yelp can help.
We hear it all the time: “Where can I find a good car mechanic?” In the past, word of mouth was probably the best way to find an auto repair shop that would do the job right and charge a fair price. But now, a good mechanic might be only a few mouse clicks or touchscreen taps away.
Crowdsourced review sites have greatly simplified the search. Here are a few tips on how to work these sites to find a good car mechanic in your area. Keep in mind that this isn’t an exact science. Sometimes a highly rated shop might disappoint, but at least you can tilt the odds in your favor.
YelpYelp.com describes itself as a site that “connects people with great businesses,” whether that’s a hot new restaurant or a top-notch dentist. And, luckily for car owners, it also has auto repair reviews. The site is free and has a mobile version, plus apps for Android and Apple mobile devices.
Yelp has an algorithm that helps it spot misleading reviews, but sometimes they can slip by undetected. That’s why it is important not to put too much stock in one review. Instead, see what patterns emerge after you’ve read numerous reviews. Look for reviews that are specific and give plenty of details about the users’ experiences.
